Originally from Owensboro, Ky., and played his high school basketball at North Hardin High School in Kentucky... Coming out of high school, Young had recruiting interest from DePaul, Kansas State, UMass, South Florida, Texas Tech and USC... Coming out of Mt. Zion Prep he had recruiting interest from Georgia Tech, Maryland, Memphis, Texas Tech and Rutgers... Averaged 15 points per game at Mt. Zion Prep and grabbed five rebounds per game. During his time at Mt. Zion, he scored 14 points and grabbed five rebounds as Mt. Zion knocked off the top-ranked team in the country, Brewster Academy (11/19/17).
